Ep. 38 of The Heart of Markness Podcast

This one was a joy to do, children. Jan. 12, 1975 was the first show of Led Zeppelin’s 1975 tour (supporting Physical Graffiti), and there were some problems.

Jimmy Page had broken the ring finger on his left hand, and Robert Plant’s voice was ravaged from a flu. They modified their set list, removing Dazed and Confused, and added When The Levee Breaks, and Wanton Song to this show. When they got to America they would add How Many More Times to substitute for Dazed until Jimmy’s finger could handle it.

We listen to Levee and Wanton Song, and they’re awesome. Enjoy!

Heart of Markness Episode 35

The 1996 tour of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant was an amazing variety of unplayed songs, arrangements, and fun. This show is the Feb. 17 1996 Page/Plant concert in Nagoya, Japan.

This is a matrix of a superb soundboard and an excellent audience recording, and you will love it.

Jimmy and Robert dealing with the Florida heat.

This is one of the very few soundboards we have of Led Zeppelin in 1971, and it’s a beauty. This show, from Aug 31, 1971 is a top ten on many fans’ lists, with good reason.

Ep. 34 – The Heart of Markness Podcast

Led Zeppelin – Copenhagen May 3, 1971

Episode 34 is up! Led Zeppelin in Copenhagen, May 3, 1971. This is an amazing show, in the Top 10 for sure, if just for the only performances (I think) of Four Sticks and Gallows Pole EVER. I also play Stairway because it’s a performance from before the release of Zep 4, and no one in the audience had heard that song before. Not the best recording, alas, but one of Zeppelin’s best shows. Wild and free. Enjoy.

If you would like this whole concert. You can download the full May 3, 1971 Led Zeppelin show, from Copenhagen, Denmark, right here. https://mega.nz/#F!6gkFTCAQ!6HSXF1rdjxf26P4GWaZB0g

Ep. 31 – Heart of Markness Podcast

Cover Art for Dallas Pop

I’m too good to you people. For Thanksgiving I give you the entire set played by Led Zeppelin, at the Dallas International Pop Festival (Aug. 31, 1969). It’s in excellent soundboard stereo. It’s a matrix which means they mix in some of the audience source to fill missing bits, and to add some ambience and atmosphere to the dry soundboard recording. They did a great job.

This show is awesome. It’s short (an hour) because they had to catch a plane home. This is the last show in their summer tour. They were stars. When they returned a few months later, they were superstars. They started 1969 as nobodies. Amazing.

Here’s a link to the whole show including artwork, etc. Thank you for listening.

The Heart of Markness Podcast

In this episode of my podcast I play a couple more songs from the March 16, 1973 Led Zeppelin concert, in Vienna. The songs are Whole Lotta Love (with insanely good medley) and Since I’ve Been Loving You. Good stuff. you can download this entire concert, (a excellent Winston Remaster) from here. Enjoy.

Here it is. What is arguably the best performance of Dazed and Confused ever. The Europe 1973 Led Zeppelin tour was indisputably the musical high point of the band’s career. They were operating at peak efficiency, intensity, and ability. Except for Robert whose voice had lost the amazing range and volume of the early days.

Any show from this tour is a gem, and any Dazed and Confused from this tour is a contender for best. I chose this one based on feedback from fans on Twitter. It’s a great recording (Winston Remastered) and it’s fiercely intense.

Jimmy’s playing is the best it’s ever been. It’s like he’s in 4K HD (or IMAX) rather than 1080p. There are layers upon layers of genius. He sticks the landing on everything he attempts, and Bonzo is borderline thrash metal drumming in parts.

You can download the entire show here, my friends. Enjoy.

Robert Plant, Linda Ronstadt, Ronnie Wood

Hola! I had more from this show that I wanted you to hear, so I did a part two. Also, I added a treat from 2/13/75 (the night before) which is Ronnie Wood joining Led Zeppelin for a sizzling Communication Breakdown.

Here’s the whole show along with the bonus song. https://mega.nz/#F!m01iiaYD!-UjoZoDsPyOt7OuffVYbQQ

Episode 25 – Heart of Markness

Led Zeppelin February 14, 1975

I talk about the Led Zeppelin concert from February 14, 1975 Uniondale NY, about the release of Physical Graffiti, and play 3 songs from the excellent soundboard recording of this show. Graeme’s remaster specifically. I play Trampled Underfoot, Over The Hills And Far Away, and The Rain Song (my favorite version). I talk a lot too, some funny stuff.

This is a great fucking show. Excellent mono soundboard recording. Would you like the whole show? Too bad. You are unworthy. Hang your head in shame.

You done? Cool. Here’s the whole show. It’s awesome. Just like you.
