Ep. 274 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

This is as legendary as legendary gets. Led Zeppelin at the LA Forum, June 23, 1977 is one of the most popular, and famous, bootleg recordings out there. The quality of Mike Millard’s master recording is matched by the quality of the bands’ performance.

The first four songs are from the Barry Goldstein master tape, which is almost as good as Millard’s. It really ties the room together, as it were.

I play Nobody’s Fault But Mine, a serene and sublime Ten Years Gone, and a muy fuerte Achilles’ Last Stand. It’s nice to hear this show with even better clarity. All thanks to the JEMS taping group for curating and preserving these precious recordings.

Ep. 260 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

This a brand new transfer from Mike Millard’s master cassettes themselves (not the DAT tansfer) by the laudable JEMS tape group, remastered tastefully by DADGAD. June 27, 1977. Led Zeppelin’s final night of a five night run at the LA Forum.

I play Sick Again (which rocks), Since I’ve Been https://soundcloud.com/mark-donahue-590813338/ep-260-led-zeppelin-last-night-in-la-1977-millard-master?si=8c3c2e36052d47a4a89a7bd39f3c5800&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharingLoving You, which shines in its more mature 1977 arrangement, and an adventurous Ten Years Gone in which not every landing is stuck, but the attempts are noteworthy.

This is a stellar recording of really good show. Lots of magic here. Zeppelin at the Forum is not to be missed.

Ep. 256 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

I circle back to this amazing show, because in episode 249 I had the raw recording not the DADGAD remaster as I’d thought. This show fixes that and highlights this great show in all its glory.
My absolute favorite performance of In My Time of Dying, along with Nobody’s Fault But Mine, and Over the Hills.
This show is so so so good.

Ep. 253 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

We listen to a new compilation of Led Zeppelin’s 1977 US Tour from cmoneysmile via Led Zeppelin Boots’ Channel. This is a very nice mix of the best performances from this iconic tour. I play a few tracks, Nobody’s Fault, Whole Lotta Love, and some acoustic one offs. A very enjoyable listen.

Ep. 249 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

This show is amazing. The sound quality is bassy with some distortion but DADGAD does a great job balancing this into a paradoxically well balanced/bass heavy recording. The music is magical and the band are locked and playing well.

Jimmy’s control and technique are in top form and all the musicians are listening, and responding, to each other as they jam. Magic is a word that applies here. I play a fun and tight In My Time of Dying and the longest No Quarter on record (33 minutes!), and it’s amazing!

Ep. 230 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast: June 23, 1977 John Wizardo Master

This is a really brilliant DAGAD remaster of John Wizardo’s master tapes of Led Zeppelin on June 23, 1977 (The legendary For Badgeholders Only show with Keith Moon) at the LA Forum.

This recording is exquisite and the show and atmosphere are second to none. A good one for sure!

Ep. 223 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

We hear some fantastic playing from Led Zeppelin in Landover, MD on 5/30/77 courtesy of Liriodendron’s fine remaster, and Led Zeppelin Boots’ restoration of lost tape with an audience from the same night, for the first time.
This is a Jonesy night although everyone is in top form. We hear Achilles and one of the best top shelf No Quarters with amazing interplay between all. A nice one.

Ep. 221 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

We listen to a stellar Mike Millard master recording of Led Zeppelin at the LA Forum on June 25, 1977. 46 years ago this week the band played an epic 5 nights at the Forum, and in recognition of this feat I play a couple of songs from one of those legendary gigs, one song being a 30 minute brilliant No Quarter. For real. Good stuff.

Ep. 195 – The Heart of Markness Led Zeppelin Podcast

We hear the NakedEye25 remaster of the soundboard for Led Zeppelin on 6/7/77 @ Madison Square Garden. Nobody’s Fault, In My Time, and No Quarter are heard, and they’re amazing. Bombastic fantastic power. Powerful 1977 vibes.
