Ep. 52 – The Princes Trust Rock Gala 1983

This is good. It’s not Led Zeppelin so it’s ok if you’re not interested, but this show (Sept 21, 1983) has some solid playing by a very nervous Jimmy Page. This is the night after the ARMS Concert and it’s the same show, but this night Charles and Diana were there for the Prince’s Trust Rock Gala… so that’s what it was called. This is Jimmy’s return to public performing after the loss of Zep, and Steve Winwood sang for him (Paul Rodgers would fill in when the tour reached the USA). He played 3 songs from Death Wish 2 and Stairway. He plays really well, especially given how shaky he was the night before, although Prelude is better on the 20th (imo). I like it. I hope you do too.

If you want to own this complete show, including the sets by Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck, and more…. you can download it right here: https://mega.nz/folder/j0kl3ZCI#WiyqrkwbbJFRnGv1XHtbYQ

Ep. 49 – The Heart of Markness Podcast

Led Zeppelin June 3, 1973 LA Forum

This is one of the best, if not THE best, show from Led Zeppelin’s 1973 US Tour. Zep always deliver in Los Angeles and this is no exception. You can download the entire show (the sound isn’t the best) right here: https://mega.nz/folder/u5VjDKKL#a5Tn0W8ATuYUIhFzNVXyJQ

Heart of Markness Episode 35

The 1996 tour of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant was an amazing variety of unplayed songs, arrangements, and fun. This show is the Feb. 17 1996 Page/Plant concert in Nagoya, Japan.

This is a matrix of a superb soundboard and an excellent audience recording, and you will love it.

Led Zeppelin – Copenhagen May 3, 1971

Episode 34 is up! Led Zeppelin in Copenhagen, May 3, 1971. This is an amazing show, in the Top 10 for sure, if just for the only performances (I think) of Four Sticks and Gallows Pole EVER. I also play Stairway because it’s a performance from before the release of Zep 4, and no one in the audience had heard that song before. Not the best recording, alas, but one of Zeppelin’s best shows. Wild and free. Enjoy.

If you would like this whole concert. You can download the full May 3, 1971 Led Zeppelin show, from Copenhagen, Denmark, right here. https://mega.nz/#F!6gkFTCAQ!6HSXF1rdjxf26P4GWaZB0g

Ep. 33 – The Heart of Markness Podcast

I was at this show. This is the first leg of the Page/Plant reunion tour (Unledded), and it was good. It got better and tighter as the tour progressed, but it was awesome to see Jimmy and Robert together again.

I recently found an almost excellent audience recording of this show (Portland OR, May 23, 1995) which I share with you. Here’s the complete show. Thank you for listening.

Ep. 32 – The Heart of Markness Podcast

I was at this show. It was amazing. November 20, 1993, Orpheum Theater, Boston. Robert was just awesome. This show was in support of my favorite album of his, Fate of Nations.

Jimmy Page was at this concert, too. He was seated near the soundboard. My friend said he’d seen him and thought he was full of shit. Whoops. Jimmy and Robert discussed the possibility of reuniting, after this show. The genesis of Page/Plant occurred hours after this recording. Cool beans.

Here is the link to the complete show. It’s a very good to excellent audience recording. Recorded on a DAT so everything is clear. Enjoy. Thanks for listening.

Ep. 31 – Heart of Markness Podcast

Cover Art for Dallas Pop

I’m too good to you people. For Thanksgiving I give you the entire set played by Led Zeppelin, at the Dallas International Pop Festival (Aug. 31, 1969). It’s in excellent soundboard stereo. It’s a matrix which means they mix in some of the audience source to fill missing bits, and to add some ambience and atmosphere to the dry soundboard recording. They did a great job.

This show is awesome. It’s short (an hour) because they had to catch a plane home. This is the last show in their summer tour. They were stars. When they returned a few months later, they were superstars. They started 1969 as nobodies. Amazing.

Here’s a link to the whole show including artwork, etc. Thank you for listening.

The Heart of Markness Podcast

In this episode of my podcast I play a couple more songs from the March 16, 1973 Led Zeppelin concert, in Vienna. The songs are Whole Lotta Love (with insanely good medley) and Since I’ve Been Loving You. Good stuff. you can download this entire concert, (a excellent Winston Remaster) from here. Enjoy.

Here it is. What is arguably the best performance of Dazed and Confused ever. The Europe 1973 Led Zeppelin tour was indisputably the musical high point of the band’s career. They were operating at peak efficiency, intensity, and ability. Except for Robert whose voice had lost the amazing range and volume of the early days.

Any show from this tour is a gem, and any Dazed and Confused from this tour is a contender for best. I chose this one based on feedback from fans on Twitter. It’s a great recording (Winston Remastered) and it’s fiercely intense.

Jimmy’s playing is the best it’s ever been. It’s like he’s in 4K HD (or IMAX) rather than 1080p. There are layers upon layers of genius. He sticks the landing on everything he attempts, and Bonzo is borderline thrash metal drumming in parts.

You can download the entire show here, my friends. Enjoy.
